Title:
Summer Research in Probability and Networking
Director(s):

Email:

Dates of Program: July 3 - October 27, 2006
Summary:
Students will use discrete probability, graph theory and computer
modeling with Matlab to analyze two kinds of networks. One group will
model an ad hoc wireless (cellphone) network in which communications
are relayed from a transmitter to a receiver through a series of
intermediate devices. They will address the issues of connectivity when
simultaneous conversations may interfere with each other.
Additional groups will examine a BitTorrent file sharing network. One
research group will consider measures of a network’s robustness
affecting file availability or ’healthâ?. Another group will explore the
effects of malicious nodes that connect to the network in order to
disrupt it.
