The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) annually honors teachers who impact and improve Mathematical education with the Mary P. Dolciani Award. We are ecstatic to announce Darryl Yong as the 2024 Dolciani Award recipient.
Mary P. Dolciani Award
The Mary P. Dolciani Award recognizes a pure or applied mathematician who is making a distinguished and active contribution to the mathematical education of K-16 students in the United States or Canada.
About This Year’s Recipient
Yong's impact on the field includes an impressive body of work: seven books, 17 refereed publications in mathematics education, and nine National Science Foundation (NSF) grants supporting his work to enhance teacher quality, retention, and empowerment, as well as student performance. One of his nominators praised him as "a brilliant teacher of teachers, a true master of his craft" who "serves as a model—perhaps the preeminent model—for the way in which a mathematician should productively interact with teachers."
In addition to his work with teachers, Darryl Yong is also passionate about the study and teaching of number theory, a vibrant subject where new approaches to old problems can still be discovered. His commitment to advancing the field is evident in his ongoing contributions to research and education.
The MAA extends its heartfelt congratulations to Darryl Yong on this well-deserved recognition of his outstanding achievements and dedication to mathematics education. We are honored to have him as part of our community and look forward to his continued impact on the field.
