US Team Earns Third Place at the 2025 Romanian Master of Mathematics

Washington, DC - The US team earned third place at this year’s Romanian Master of Mathematics (RMM) competition, which took place February 10 - 15, 2025 in Bucharest, Romania. The RMM is a challenging international high school mathematics competition that allows students to exchange mathematical ideas and engage in cross-cultural communication with other students worldwide.

The US team, selected and facilitated by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), has participated in the RMM since 2012.

At the 16th Romanian Master of Mathematics, 16 teams comprised of students from 19 countries competed. Over the course of two days, students worked through six problems; the team score is based on the combined highest three individual scores.

USA Team Members: 5 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Each US team member received an individual award for their rank among the 85 competitors:

Rohan Bodke (Los Altos, CA) - Bronze medal (individual rank #26)

Andrew Lin (Pennington, NJ) - Silver medal (individual rank #22)

Aprameya Tripathy (West Windsor Plainsboro, NJ) - Silver medal (individual rank #11)

Oron Wang (Short Hills, NJ) - Silver medal (individual rank #19)

Feodor Yevtushenko (Irvine, CA) - Silver medal (individual rank #10)

Michael Zhao (Austin, TX) - Silver medal (individual rank #16)

“Congratulations to Team USA for this outstanding performance on the world stage. We are honored to support our students’ continuing mathematical growth and proud of the way they represent our country abroad.”

- Doug Ensley, MAA Director of Competition Operations

The team was guided by US Team Leader John Berman and deputy leader Daniel Zhu.

The US team for the Romanian Masters of Mathematics competition is selected from top students who have not previously competed in international contests. The selection process begins each fall with the MAA American Mathematics Competitions (AMC). Students who perform exceptionally well in the AMC qualify for a series of invitational competitions. Those who advance through these rounds may be invited to the Mathematical Olympiad Program (MOP), a summer training camp focused on advanced mathematical problem-solving.
