About This Year’s Recipient
Dr. Jesús De Loera has been honored for his tireless efforts in mentoring and training a new generation of leaders in mathematics, with a particular focus on historically underrepresented groups, including Latinx mathematicians. For over 25 years, Dr. De Loera has played a pivotal role in organizing workshops, research communities, and webinars, providing tiered mentoring and networking opportunities for Latinx and Hispanic early career researchers.
His commitment to increasing diversity and promoting leadership development in graduate mathematics is evident through his involvement in various programs and societies at both the national and local levels. These include the Transforming Post-Secondary Education in Mathematics (TPSE Math) program, the Chicano and Latino Engineer and Scientist Society (CALESS) at UC Davis, and the Center for Chicanx and Latinx Academic Student Success at UC Davis.
"Currently, too much mathematical talent is wasted," Dr. De Loera states. "Mathematicians need to lead the change and help more people enjoy Mathematics."
The impact of Dr. De Loera's contributions will continue to resonate across the field of mathematics, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.
