The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is proud to announce Daniel Reinholz as the recipient of the 2024 Annie and John Selden Prize for Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education Award.
Annie and John Selden Prize Award
In November 2004, the MAA Board of Governors approved the Mathematical Association of America's Annie and John Selden Prize for Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education honoring a researcher who has established a significant record of published research in undergraduate mathematics education and who has been in the field at most ten years. The prize is designed to be an encouragement to such researchers and at most one is awarded every other year.
About This Year’s Recipient
Dr. Daniel Reinholz has been honored for his tireless dedication to equity in the classroom and his groundbreaking innovations in the field of research in undergraduate mathematics education (MAA SIGMAA RUME). His original, creative, and dedicated approach has delivered significant progress in addressing racial and gender inequities in classroom participation.
Dr. Reinholz's equity-focused research uniquely balances fine-grained qualitative and quantitative methods, providing valuable insights into the pervasive nature of inequities within educational settings. His development of EQUIP (Equity QUantified In Participation) represents a major methodological advancement, enabling researchers and educators to track student participation patterns and disaggregate data by various social markers.
EQUIP currently supports over 2,500 users, ranging from pre-service and in-service teachers to college and university faculty. The platform's success is a testament to Dr. Reinholz's impact on promoting inclusive educational practices and supporting equitable classroom environments.
