USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) Winners

The USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) and the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (USAJMO) are an invite-only, proof-based competition for students who have excelled in the MAA American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 10/12 and the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME).

Here are the winners from the 2024 USAMO and USAJMO:

International Teams

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the world’s premier high school mathematics competition, attracting the best young mathematicians from around the globe. Six students qualify for the USA Team through their performance in the MAA AMC 10/12 and subsequent invitational competitions. Read more about this process here.

Congratulations to the members of the 2024 USA IMO Team, who placed first at the 65th IMO:

  • Jordan Lefkowitz, CT
  • Krishna Pothapragada, IL
  • Jessica Wan, FL
  • Alexander Wang, NJ
  • Qiao (Tiger) Zhang, CA
  • Linus Tang, CA

The MAA also selects the USA Team for the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) from among the top-scoring young women in the MAA AMC program through a similar process as the IMO.

Congratulations to the members of the 2024 USA EGMO team, who placed first at the 13th EGMO:

  • Jessica Wan, FL
  • Hannah Fox, CA

Young Women in Mathematics Awards & Certificates

The Young Women in Mathematics Awards & Certificates (YWMAC) celebrate the achievements of young women who excel in the MAA AMC and inspire other young women and students from underrepresented groups in mathematics to participate in these exciting competitions.

Thanks to the support of our generous sponsors, the MAA provides scholarships to the five highest-scoring girl-identifying participants in each competition. Additionally, the top five highest-scoring girls in each MAA Section are recognized with a certificate for each competition.

Please note that these lists only include those who have given permission to have their names published. In the case of ties, more than five young women are listed.

The MAA is providing scholarships for the top five AMC 8 scorers through the generous support of Awesome Math Girls, an organization dedicated to making mathematics and problem-solving more appealing to girls at middle and high school levels.

The Maryam Mirzakhani AMC 8 Award is named after Maryam Mirzakhani, an inspirational mathematician and professor of mathematics at Stanford University. “Dr. Mirzakhani achieved so much at such a young age and defied all the odds on her journey to mathematical excellence,” said Meera Desai. Mirzakhani was the first female honored with the Fields Medal, the most prestigious award in mathematics and she is an IMO gold medalist with a perfect score. Mirzakhani’s accomplishments laid the groundwork for aspiring young mathematicians and she is quoted by Stanford News saying “I am sure there will be many more women winning this kind of award in coming years.” On 14 July 2017, Mirzakhani died of breast cancer at the age of 40.
