Mathematical Research Honored with the 2025 Mary P. Dolciani Award 

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) honors outstanding educators who advance mathematical education through the Mary P. Dolciani Award. We are thrilled to announce that April Ström is the 2025 Dolciani Award recipient. 

Mary P. Dolciani Award

The Mary P. Dolciani Award recognizes a mathematician, statistician, or mathematics educator who is making a distinguished contribution to the mathematical education of K-16 students in the United States or Canada. The recipient will be actively contributing to mathematics and statistics education at the time of the selection. 

About This Year’s Recipient

Dr. Ström’s impact on mathematics education includes 17 publications, two book chapters, and leadership on several NSF-funded projects aimed at transforming mathematics teaching and learning across K-16. She also played a key role in developing the MAA Instructional Practices Guide and co-edited the AMS-MAA-CBMS book Transformational Change Efforts: Student Engagement in Mathematics Through on Institutional Network for Active Learning

In addition, Dr. Ström has held several prominent leadership roles with the MAA, AMATYC, and ArizMATYC. She has spent 26 years teaching at the community college level, where she continues to inspire students through her passion and promotion of active learning. Her dedication to improving mathematics education at all levels is evident through her ongoing contributions. 

The MAA extends its sincere congratulations to Dr. Ström on this well-deserved honor and celebrates her contributions to mathematics education. We are proud to have her as a member of the mathematical community and look forward to her continued influence on her work in the years to come.
