MAA Joins STM Association

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is pleased to announce that it has been accepted as an Affiliate Member of the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers (STM), a leading professional body for scholarly publishers. Headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands and with offices in Oxford, UK, STM advances trusted research for the benefit of society by fostering collaboration and innovation among its members and the wider scholarly community. Through its annual meetings in the US, Germany and the UK as well as other smaller regional events, STM provides a forum for discussion of the latest issues, challenges and new technologies in the scholarly publishing industry.

Speaking to the MAA news team, Senior Director of Publications at MAA, Matthew Salter said “The focus of STM on such areas as research integrity, social responsibility, open research, and innovation in scholarly publishing align closely with the values of MAA and its publications. Joining STM was a natural choice for us and I look forward to MAA's productive engagement with the wider scholarly publishing community. Membership of STM is an important step for MAA in growing its involvement in the publishing industry and bringing its unique viewpoint to the debate.”

Michael Pearson, MAA Executive Director commented “MAA represents one of the largest global communities of mathematicians, educators, students, and mathematics enthusiasts, who are all committed to advancing the understanding of mathematics and its impact on our world. I am delighted that MAA has joined STM and look forward to benefiting from, and contributing to, the broader STM publishing community."
