
The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is excited to announce David Goldberg as the 2025 winner of the T. Christine Stevens Award.
T. Christine Stevens Award
The MAA T. Christine Stevens Award for Leadership Development is named in honor of MAA Project NExT’s co-founder. It’s the Association’s annual recognition of the importance of professional development that seeks to build leadership capacity. It is awarded to a person or persons who has performed significant, sustained work to cultivate and strengthen leadership skills within the mathematical sciences across the full range of professional activities.
About This Year’s Recipient
David Goldberg has been honored for his extraordinary leadership for expanding access to doctoral degrees in mathematics for underrepresented and underserved students. As a Professor of Mathematics at Purdue University and the Executive Director of the Math Alliance, Dr. Goldberg has spent over two decades advancing mentorship and inclusivity in the mathematical sciences.
His dedication to enhancing diversity and fostering leadership development in graduate mathematics is reflected in his active participation in numerous programs and roles. Joining Math Alliance first as a mentor, Dr. Goldberg has guided the growth of faculty mentors, students, and scholars. His efforts earned him the 2017 American Mathematical Society Programs that Make a Difference Award and a nomination for the 2024 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM).
Dr. Goldberg's commitment to inclusivity, leadership, and mentorship has made a significant impact on the mathematical community and aligns with the vision and mission of the MAA. His work will continue to inspire others to create inclusive and supportive environments for students in the mathematical sciences.
