Dr. Christina Eubanks-Turner named as the next Editor of MAA FOCUS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christina Eubanks-Turner as the next editor of MAA FOCUS, the Association's flagship member magazine. Dr. Eubanks-Turner will join the MAA FOCUS team as Editor-Elect in August 2026 and begin her term as Editor in January 2027, succeeding Dr Allison Henrich who has guided the publication in that role since 2022.

MAA FOCUS serves as the voice of the MAA community, connecting members through news, feature stories, professional insights, mathematical perspectives, and coverage of the people and programs that shape the mathematical sciences. As editor, Dr. Eubanks-Turner will take MAA FOCUS into its next chapter, overseeing the magazine's editorial vision while continuing its tradition of celebrating excellence in mathematics, teaching, research, and outreach.

A respected mathematician and educator, Dr. Eubanks-Turner is currently professor of mathematics in the Seaver College of Science and Engineering at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), in Los Angeles, CA where she carries out research into commutative algebra, graph theory, and mathematics education. A graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, Dr Eubanks-Turner earned her MSc and PhD from the University of Nebraska and moved to her current position at LMU in 2013. Since graduation, Dr Eubanks-Turner has built a distinguished career dedicated to advancing mathematics teaching and learning, supporting students and faculty, and broadening participation and inclusion in the mathematical sciences.

"I am honored to serve as the next editor of MAA FOCUS," said Dr. Eubanks-Turner. "The magazine has long played a crucial role in amplifying the voices of and informing the members of the MAA. I look forward to working with contributors, readers, and the MAA staff to highlight the remarkable work, ideas, and people that make our community so vibrant."

Commenting on the appointment, Matthew Salter the Senior Director of Publishing at MAA said "Christina brings an outstanding combination of scholarly accomplishment, editorial insight, and deep commitment to the mathematical community. Her experience as a leader, educator, and communicator coupled with her passion for communicating the value and beauty of mathematics makes her exceptionally well suited to lead MAA FOCUS as it continues to inform, inspire, and connect our members."

During the coming months, Dr. Eubanks-Turner will work closely with the current editorial team to ensure a smooth transition ahead of her first issue in 2027.

The MAA welcomes Dr. Eubanks-Turner to this leadership position and looks forward to the perspective and stewardship she will bring to MAA FOCUS. Her appointment underscores the Association’s commitment to supporting high-quality mathematical communication and professional engagement.
