The MAA American Mathematics Competitions (MAA AMC) has upgraded to a new registration system! Here are some answers to the questions you might have about the new process.

Frequently Asked Questions

We made this change to ensure a consistent approach in how we serve teachers and students by treating the AMC 8, AMC 10, and AMC 12 as three separate events that occur each year. The new registration process aligns with this approach, allowing us to focus on each grade level rather than just the testing dates. We understand this change may come as a surprise, so to ease the transition, we’ve reduced early bird registration fees for this first year. This should help minimize any impact on your budgets, especially if you had to submit funding requests before our registration period began.

We introduced the “A/B Bundle” to simplify the registration process for schools that offer both the AMC A and AMC B exams to the same group of students. This bundle includes ten registrations for the A exam and ten registrations for the B exam, all in one convenient package. If your competition setting benefits from having the same number of A and B exams, this bundle is ideal. Additionally, the “A/B Bundle” is priced lower than purchasing the A and B exams separately, so you get both convenience and cost savings.

If you’ve created a new account or added a new institution, please allow up to 48 business hours for your institution to be vetted. Once it’s approved, the “Registration” option will appear in the top menu.

You also need to be added as a competition manager at your institution to see the “Registration” option. If you didn’t check the “Competition Manager” box during account creation, click the “Change” button next to your details on your profile, check the “Competition Manager” box at the bottom, and then save.

Once you have added one competition to your shopping cart, select “Registration” in the top menu bar and complete the process again to add a second competition. Your previous orders will remain in your cart until you delete them or check out.

Spanish and French translations are now complimentary and don’t need to be purchased separately. You can download them as PDFs along with the English version in your portal.

When registering for the AMC 10 or AMC 12, you’ll find four products available for purchase in any quantity: A bundles (each with 10 student registrations), B bundles (each with 10 student registrations), A/B bundles (each with 20 student registrations), and individual copies of the Braille version.

In the new registration system, you must pay the AMC 8, AMC 10, or AMC 12 registration fee before completing a purchase for any competition bundles. If you buy only one type of competition bundle (in any quantity), the one-time registration fee will be added correctly to your order. However, if you want to purchase more than one type of bundle for a given competition, the process depends on your payment method:

    • Paying by Credit Card: Complete the purchase for the first product (e.g., AMC 10 A bundles). Once this purchase is processed in the system, subsequent purchases for that same competition (such as AMC 10 B or AMC 10 A in Braille) will not include the registration fee.
    • Paying by Purchase Order (Invoice Me): If you select more than one type of bundle for a competition (e.g., two AMC 10 A/B bundles and one AMC 10 A bundle), you may see the AMC 10 registration fee appear twice on your invoice. To resolve this, contact the MAA AMC Help Desk between 8:30 am and 5 pm ET at 1-800-527-3690 or email amcinfo@maa.org. We will work with you to consolidate your invoice and send you a corrected copy promptly.

Contact the MAA AMC Help Desk between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET at 1-800-527-3690 or via email at amcinfo@maa.org.

You can pay online directly with a credit card or generate an invoice that can be paid by check. We no longer offer the option of completing payment after the competition date; registration fees must be paid before students can be registered and approved for the competition on the AMC platform.

Go to your profile page by clicking the person icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page, then select “Orders” from the menu on the left. You can view all your orders, but note that you won’t see orders placed by other competition managers at your institution. Use the tabs to navigate between paid and unpaid orders.

Please be aware that unpaid invoices will be deleted from the system at the end of a cycle.

Due to the large volume and short timeline for competition registration, we cannot process partial refunds for bundle orders.

Everyone who creates an account and checks the “Competition Manager” box will receive two emails: a welcome to the MAA Portal for MAA membership (now complimentary with MAA AMC registration) and a welcome to the MAA AMC Registration Portal, where you can register for the MAA AMC and manage your institution affiliations and orders.

If you didn’t receive the second email and you did check the “Competition Manager” box, please check your spam folder. Contact amcinfo@maa.org for further assistance if you still cannot find the email.

Please see this Competition Manager Registration Guide for step-by-step information.

Please note that AMC Registration fees must be paid in full before competition managers are granted access to the Competition Administration Portal.

MAA AMC policies allow competition managers to move all of their bundles from the A exam to the B exam or vice versa. We cannot change the quantities involved (see policy on partial refunds). To change your A vs B dates, contact our Service Center at 1-800-527-3690 or amcinfo@maa.org
