Editor Lectures Program
Invited addresses by MAA journal and magazine editors have been a popular feature of section meetings for years. To strengthen this connection, the Editor Lectures Program was developed.
Goals of the program:
- Provide outstanding speakers to sections regularly.
- Allow editors to discuss their journal’s mission and policies.
- Boost attendance at section meetings.
- Increase readership, subscriptions, and submissions to the journals.
In the second year after a section is eligible for a Pólya Lecturer, it can invite an editor from journals like American Mathematical Monthly, Mathematics Magazine, The College Mathematics Journal, Math Horizons, Convergence, Math Values, and MAA FOCUS. The Board of Directors will review this list periodically.
The Association covers the editor's travel expenses, and sections are not expected to provide a stipend, though waiving registration and banquet fees is customary. Sections should assist with travel, lodging, meals, local transportation, and registration arrangements.
Due to high demand in the spring, section leaders should invite editors early. The MAA Secretary and Chair of the Council on Publications can assist with scheduling challenges. After the visit, the editor will submit a report summarizing the event.
