This is the second edition of a book previously reviewed here. The preface to the new edition suggests that the first edition might have been rushed into publication because of the pandemic. The goals in the new edition include the usual correction of errors and misprints, as well as inclusion of new examples and exercises, and a renewed effort to make the first half of the book clear and useful to a range of students.
That first half is indeed suitable for a standard one -semester introduction to differential equations for undergraduates. As with the first edition, the text includes a broad selection of topics on ordinary and partial differential equations. These include the usual standards but also add Laplace transforms, analysis of stability of solutions, Sturm-Liouville problems and the calculus of variations. Some of these latter subjects are not treated in a lot of detail. Indeed, much of the second half is more of a survey than a comprehensive treatment.
This is probably not a book for those aiming to specialize in some aspect of ODEs or PDEs, but it does provide a readable introduction for those looking for a broad overview.
