Take Action Now to Protect NSF Funding

Spring Advocacy: 2027 Federal Budget

As Congress begins work on Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations, it is important that your elected representatives hear from you regarding 2027 fiscal year budget request. We have included draft email and report language below that you may adapt, linked here.

Many Senate offices now require appropriations requests (funding levels and report language) to be submitted through a formal online portal. You can look up your Senator’s website using  https://www.senate.gov/.  If your Senator offers an online form on their website, please add the information that’s included in the draft email there, in addition to sending the email. The House of Representatives member requests were completed earlier and do not require further action at this time.

Please feel free to identify MAA as your member organization in these advocacy efforts.

Advocacy at MAA

The MAA recognizes the need for sustained federal funding for mathematics research and education and joins in collective advocacy efforts to support this funding. Ongoing efforts to diminish federal support for STEM research and education threaten to undercut our nation's leadership across all STEM sectors and negatively impact MAA’s community.

MAA's central role in supporting the undergraduate program in mathematics has long been aligned with the NSF Division of Undergraduate Education’s goals to improve the quality of teaching & learning in mathematics. Today, efforts are underway to severely diminish, if not eliminate, NSF support for these critical activities.

Help us advocate for continued funding of vital research and education! On this page, you'll find information and tools to reach out to your elected representatives and help us make a case for sustaining the role of NSF in improving STEM education.
