WASHINGTON, DC - The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) announces that Dr. Camille McKayle will become Executive Director of the Association, effective September 1, 2026.

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the MAA, leading day-to-day operations and implementing the strategic direction established through consultation with the Board of Directors to support the Association’s mission and programs.

Dr. McKayle is a former Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of the Virgin Islands, and previously served as Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. Most recently, she was a Deputy Division Director in the STEM Education Directorate at the National Science Foundation, where she had also previously served as a Program Officer. A mathematician and experienced academic leader, she brings expertise in mathematics, mathematical education, grant leadership, and STEM strategy.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the MAA as Executive Director,” said Dr. McKayle. “I appreciate the legacy created by current Executive Director Michael Pearson and those before him, and I look forward to working with the team and the Board in furtherance of MAA’s mission of advancing the understanding of mathematics and its impact on our world. The MAA serves a broad cross-section of mathematicians, and I will be working with the MAA team, sections, and interest groups to listen to their voices as we shape the Association’s path forward.”

“Dr. McKayle brings exceptional experience as a mathematician, academic leader, and national STEM advocate,” said Dr. Jenna Carpenter, President of the MAA Board of Directors. “Following a comprehensive national search, the search committee and Board are confident that she will guide the MAA with vision, integrity, and a strong commitment to our members.”

She recently served as the principal investigator for the Center for the Advancement of STEM Leadership, a National Science Foundation-funded initiative focused on understanding the leadership practices that have contributed to the success of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in undergraduate STEM graduate production.

Dr. McKayle received her B.S. in Mathematics from Bates College and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from Lehigh University. Her current research centers on STEM education and leadership. A member of the inaugural cohort of MAA Project NExT fellows, Dr. McKayle has maintained a longstanding connection to the MAA and its mission.
