The Mathematical Association of America is pleased to announce that Matthew Salter, PhD, has joined the organization as Senior Director of Publications, effective May 2025. In this role, Matthew will lead the strategic vision for MAA’s portfolio of scholarly journals, books, and digital content, working closely with editorial boards, authors, and publishing partners to strengthen the reach and impact of our publications.

Matthew brings deep expertise in STEM publishing, science communication, and academic leadership. As founder and CEO of Akabana Consulting LLC, and through previous senior roles at both commercial and society publishers, he has successfully launched journals, expanded portfolios, and developed innovative tools to support open science and research dissemination. His experience spans editorial services, publishing strategy, marketing, and business development across global markets.

A chemist by training, Matthew earned his BSc and PhD from Imperial College London. He is fluent in Japanese and proficient in Mandarin Chinese and has extensive experience in Asian business environments. We are excited to welcome Matthew to the MAA community and look forward to his leadership in advancing the visibility and value of our publications.
