Women and Mathematics Network

The Women & Mathematics Network (WAM Network) is a consortium of Program Directors of outreach programs in mathematics for women and girls. The organization has existed since 1975 under the auspices of the Mathematical Association of America Committee on the Participation of Women ’ with a name change from Women and Mathematics to the Women & Mathematics Network in 1996.

Membership is open to anyone who is interested in outreach and advocacy programs in mathematics for women and girls. The range of activities sponsored by these directors is extensive. Program formats include: after-school math clubs, one-day conference with hands-on activities and career discussion with women professionals in mathematically-based careers, summer math camps, and mentoring projects.

The WAM Network seeks to provide:

  • Professional development opportunities for program directors;
  • Forums for sharing ideas and expertise;
  • Workshops and forums for prospective directors of such programs.

The WAM Network routinely sponsors poster and paper sessions at the Joint Mathematics Meetings of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and the American Mathematical Society (AMS).
