    Jacques Charles made the first flight (to 1800 feet) in a hydrogen (rather than hot air) balloon. He was the first person to see the sun set twice in one day.

    Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky born in Nizhny Novgorod (also known as Gorky), Russia. Known best for his invention of hyperbolic geometry, Lobachevsky spent most of his life and his entire career at the University of Kazan, Russia.
