US IMO Team Leaves Beijing for Hanoi

On Monday, July 23, the US IMO team flew out of Beijing for Hanoi. The 2007 IMO will take place in Vietnam's capital from July 25-27, with the results released a few days later.

Steve Dunbar, director of the American Mathematics Competitions, reported from Beijing the "Health of all is good, and all are in good spirits. Due to the arrangement we have for the rooms, we have enough cash for everything we do. Weather is hot, somewhat humid, but air-conditioning makes all the sleeping, eating and working areas pleasant."

The team had been in Beijing since July 19. In the mornings, the U.S. team and coaches did quite a bit of site-seeing, which included stops at the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, and the Temple of Heaven.

In the afternoons, the math team trained for the upcoming competition. In the evenings all were treated to meals and "banquets." The principal of the TsingHua High School, where they roomed, hosted one dinner.

Before leaving China, everybody did their laundry.
