X&Y: A Play That's Inherently Mathematical

Oxford mathematician Marcus du Sautoy and actress and mathematician Victoria Gould play the title characters in the Twin Primes Theatre Company's X&Y.

In the piece, Sautoy and Gould "use mathematics, humour and theatre to navigate the known and unknown reaches of our world" (according to the Science Museum page about the production).

As the pair explained to interviewers from Plus, they've discovered many parallels between math and theater. An example: In both math and theater, "if you say something exists, then it does," as long as it "has a consistency about it."
