The JMM in The Baltimore Sun
On the day the 2014 Joint Mathematics Meetings opened in Charm City, The Baltimore Sun ran a story called "Mathematicians converge on Baltimore to discuss the science and art of numbers."
Sun reporter Julie Scharper conveyed the diversity of both the crowd thronging the Baltimore Convention Center and the topics on the program:
Mathematicians, some bearded and bespectacled, others young and flaunting tattoos of equations, are filling the Inner Harbor with chatter about irreducible polynomials, combinatorics, differential equations and other topics that bring back bad memories of high school for many of us.
