No Need to Shun Malaysia Airlines, Says Silver

Nate Silver analyzes the data to answer the question on many air travelers' minds in a year that has so far seen Malaysia Airlines involved in two mysterious incidents.

Silver concludes that "an airline’s track record tells you something about its probability of future crashes — although not a lot, and only if looked at in the right way." He recommends considering dangerous incidents of any kind rather than restricting attention to fatal accidents and notes a correlation between a country's wealth and the crash rates of its airlines.
