"Math Pirate" Dies at 80
The University of Chicago's Paul Sally Jr. died on December 29, 2013 at the age of 80.
Sally, who had worked at Chicago since 1965, had served as the math department’s director of undergraduate studies for 30 years. He directed much acclaimed outreach programs in mathematical education for Chicago Public Schools and taught until the end.
