Four-Year-Olds Equipartition Virtual Waffles
The NSF-funded Next Generation Preschool Math project aims to develop and evaluate apps, teachers' guides, and tools for tracking children's progress toward enjoying and succeeding in mathematics.
The New York Times reported on a team of software developers and designers from Boston public television station WGBH paying a Massachusetts preschool a visit to observe how students and teachers interact with their prototype math apps.
One app, which introduces youngsters to the idea of equipartitioning, has students cut waffles and divvy up the pieces equally among several plates.
