Mathematical Treasure: R. A. Fisher’s Statistics Books

Sir Ronald Aylmer Fisher (1890-1962) was an English applied statistician and geneticist. Among his pioneering contributions to the field of statistics was the concept of “likelihood” and the analysis of variance. His 1925 book, Statistical Methods for Research Workers, was a great impetus in the popularization of applied statistics. The book was widely received and eventually went through thirty editions. The seventh edition is examined here.

The concept of linear regression is discussed on pages 32-33.

The great success and impact of his statistics book prompted R. A. Fisher to publish The Design of Experiments in 1938.
